Y'ALL.
Y'ALLLLLLL!
Y'ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!
So, for those who do not know, I'm in Nebraska this summer working at the Rose Theater in Omaha as a theatre education intern. It's only been two weeks (including orientation week) and I've already decided this has been a phenomenal idea on my part. I've learned more about theatre education in these past two weeks than I have in my last three years of college. The people are so kind and always willing to help! My fellow interns are amazing and wildly talented. My roommate, Dana, is POPPPPPPING. She is a queen and I'm so happy we are rooming together! Being with this theatre company this summer is truly a blessing. I'm on my feet teaching everyday with all ages and so many different teachers and teaching styles. They all come from different backgrounds and have an immense amount to offer. Omaha is dope. Now, there are a few things that come into play when we all read that I'm in Omaha.
ARE THERE BLACK PEOPLE IN NEBRASKA?
Well, have no fear! The answer is yes! This past weekend the girls and I hit the streets to explore museums and more of what Omaha has to offer and it was amazing! Right across the street were people playing basketball and running through the water fountains. I loved every moment of their version of ordinary in North Omaha.
We visited the Union, where they had a black hair art exhibit that we couldn't miss! Not only was it inspirational, but it felt like home. There were also an immense amount of black owned businesses! Grocery stores, boutiques, nail techs, and art galleries. THEY HAD IT ALL.
Stay tuned for next weeks #Juneteenth festivities! Where I'll feature a whole bunch of black owned businesses and fun stuff. I'm so excited to get to know Omaha better and discover more about myself while I'm here.
Until next time!
